2019 is one of the most memorable years for Telugu cinema, we have seen humongous budgets movies like Saaho, Sye Raa Narasimha Reddy and content-based movies like Jersey, Agent Sai Srinivas Athreya and Arjun Suravaram. But for some of our Tollywood heroes failed to deliver a hit this year. Nandamuri Balakrishna, Nagarjuna, Ram Charan, Vijay Devarakonda and Karthikeya all failed miserably at the box office. Today lets take a look at these movies and try to understand what's gone wrong with these films.

1.Balakrishna: Balayya's dream project, making a biopic on his late father N.T. Rama Rao came to life this year, and makers made the film in two parts. Krish Jagarlamudi left Bollywood film Manikarnika to direct NTR biopic. A vast star cast like Vidya Balan, Kalyan Ram, Rana Daggupati, Sumanth and so on came forward to be in this prestigious project. M.M Keeravani's musical, Sai Madhav Burra dialogues and Gnana Shekar's visual collaborated up for the film, but the movie was a disaster at the box office. One of the main reason for the failure was narrating the story to the audience. There is no doubt that NTR was a godly figure to Telugu people, but when making a movie, you have to consider plot and subplots which keep the audience for two and a half hours. NTR biopic only concentrates on NTR for whole 5 hours(As the movie made in two parts) without giving any run time to other prominent characters that shaped NTR in his days.

After NTR biopic failure Balayya collaborated with yesteryear Tamil star director KS Ravi Kumar who had already made Jai Simha last year. Ruler was an old-style typical mass drama which aimed at Balayya fans.  Makers are bit successful in bringing back the fandom of Balayya, but the general audience didn't enjoy the movie at all. As a senior hero who has been in industry 30 years, Balayya should understand that people are not experiencing these mass dramas and come up with different conceptual movies.

2. Ram Charan: Rangasthalam was a most memorable movie in Charan's career which finally showed the audience what he is capable of and earned huge appreciations all over the country. But Ram Charan didn't sustain this craze with his next flick Vinaya Vidheya Rama. Directed by commercial mass specialist Boyapati Srinu, VVR was a disaster in Ram Charan's career. The story and treatment remind you of the same old Boyapati films in the past. The only difference here is that Charan showcased in a new manner. Yet the movie collected a significant amount of money at the box office and collected 97 crores gross. Ram Charan should understand his market and come up with exciting concepts, not this same old mass actions. Thanks to Rajamouli now he is doing Tollwood's biggest multistarrer RRR with Jr NTR.

3. Nagarjuna: Another senior hero who ended up failure in 2019 is Akkineni Nagarjuna. Manmadhudu 2 was one of the biggest disasters in Tollywood and destroyed the reputation of 2002's classic Manmadhudu. We all agree he is the romantic king of Tollywood but acting in romantic scenes and kissing girls who are less than half of his age was very awkward to watch on screen. Rahul Ravindran failed miserably by doing this romantic comedy with Nagarjuna and Rakul Preet Singh. Though the movie was an official remake of French film 'I Do', it was a complete disaster in Tollywood. There is no proper screenplay, failed comedy scenes and cringy romantic scenes made Manmadhudu 2 one of the biggest failures of 2019.

4. Vijay Devarakonda: Arjun Reddy was a path-breaking movie in Tollywood after Ram Gopal Varma's Shiva. Vijay Devarakonda became a star hero within a few years with blockbusters like Geetha Govindam and Taxiwala. He has become the busiest hero in Tollywood making 2-3 films a year, but 2019 was a bitter year for this Rowdy. This year Vijay not only starred in Dear Comrade but also produced Meeku Mathrame Cheptha. After Geetha Govindam's blockbuster Vijay-Rashmika paired up in Dear Comrade in four south languages Telugu, Tamil, Kannada and Malayalam. But the film didn't satisfy the audience in theatres. The main problem in the movie was about women empowerment and harassments happening in reality which was a great concept. Still, director Bharath Kamma focused more on Vijay and less on the core story. Coming to Meeku Mathrame Cheptha, making a good director Tharun Bhascker into a hero was a mistake done by Vijay. If he wants to produce movies, Vijay should pick perfect concepts, not the same old romcoms which are already fading out in Tollywood.

5. Akhil Akkineni: It's been four years Akhil made debut in Tollywood but didn't deliver any hit at the box office. 2019 not exceptional in his case, directed by Tholi Prema's fame Venky Atluri 'Mr. Majnu' was a failure in Akhil's filmography. The quest for presenting himself as a lover boy failed once again. 'Mr. Majnu' was a new age romantic drama which has a decent setup. But the lack of emotional connect in the love story takes things down a bit in the second half. Akhil should quickly find ways to gain audience trust or else he will end up as another star kid with no talent.

6. Karthikeya: Another new wonder RX 100 fame Karthikeya had a sweet, bitter year. Kartikeya's portrayal as antagonist Dev in Nani's Gang Leader was appreciated all over Telugu states. Many people told that if chosen his roles quite cleverly, he can go a long way. But Kartikeya failed to convert this with his movies. This year he came before box office with three films Hippi, Guna 369 and 90 ml which were a disaster. Though Kartikey got good marks with acting in all the movies if he keeps on delivering flops like this, his career span will be reduced and end up like just another one movie wonder.
