Sattiraju Lakshmi Narayana, nobody, will get when we say this name. He is one of the most celebrated directors of the Telugu film industry.  From Padmashri to Life Time Achievement Award from Indian Institute of Cartoonists, he left his mark on every Telugu film lover. He is none other than our very own Bapu.  He is known for crafting a movie in the art form and showed the beauty of Ramayana through various films. Known for introducing Anil Kapoor to Indian cinema, Bapu has directed Hindi films such as Hum Paanch, Prem Pratigyaa, Seeta Swayamvar, Anokhi Bhakt, Bezubaan, Woh Saat Din, Pyari Behna, Mohobbat, Mera Dharam, and Diljala. He has also directed a Tamil film Neeti Devan Mayagugiran. From 1967 to 2011, Bapu has given some of the best films in Tollywood. Today on his birthday lets remember those classics.

Sampoorna Ramayanam: Based on Valmiki's Ramayana Sampoorna Ramayanam was one of the best Telugu films which shown Sri Rama story beautifully. Under his close friend Mullapudi Venkataramana writing, Bapu directed this film which ran 100 days in 10 theatres. Shoban Babu played as Rama and legendary actor SV Ranga Rao played as Ravana in this film. Musical legend KV Mahadevan composed music for this masterpiece.

Bhakta Kannappa: Every year on the eve of Shiva Ratri, we hear the song "Siva Siva Sankara Bhaktava Sankara." It is a go-to song for every devotee who is doing rituals on that auspicious day.  Inspired by Ben-Hur (1959) and wanted to produce a film just like it, Krishnam Raju approached Bapu about the idea, and Bapu narrated the story of Bhakta Kannappa. And that's how movie happened, and after the release, the film ran for one year in theatres.

Mantri Gari Viyyankudu: Collaborating with Megastar Chiranjeevi and Music Maestro Ilairaaja for the first time, Bapu made a successful commercial remake Mantri Gari Viyyankudu. The movie was both a critical and commercial success and completed 50 days in most of the centres it was released. While the film was the first foray for Bapu/Ramana combination into pure commercial cinema, the movie became a rage among youth, especially the college scenes and the songs endeared the youth of Andhra to the cinema. The film would have done even better had it not released a week after Khaidi, which was breaking all kinds of industry records at that time.

Pelli Pustakam: Another go-to song from Bapu's movie but this time it was in weddings. Srirastu Subhamastu is one of the most used songs in weddings and receptions. The story of two young married couple who disguise themselves as unmarried to get a job is Pelli Pustakam. The film recorded as a Super Hit at the box office. The blockbuster film has received the state Nandi Award for Best Feature Film and premiered in Indian Panorama section at the International Film Festival of India. This movie has a resemblance to the 1955 classic film Missamma.

Sri Rama Rajyam: The last film from ends with another Rama story, Sri Rama Rajyam. Bapu announced that he would remake 1963 film Lava Kusa with Balakrishna who reprises the role of Lord Rama which was enacted by his father N. T. Rama Rao in the original movie. Bapu's friend Mullapudi Venkata Ramana has written the screenplay and dialogues for the film and notably was his last film as he died before the film's release. Director K. Viswanath compared the duo Bapu and Ramana to "technically perfect and smooth" Rolls Royce. A novel of the movie based on the screenplay released in 2012.
