1. Mirzapur

Mirzapur is an Indian crime thriller streaming on Amazon Prime Video featuring Pankaj Tripathi, Ali Fazal, Vikranth Massey, and Swetha Tripathi. This web series revolves around drugs, guns, anarchy, and crime prevailing in the Purvanchal region of Uttar Pradesh. Its first season consists of 9 episodes in total. The series has been renewed for a second season which will release in 2020. Mirzapur was the third Amazon's original in India after Inside Edge and Breathe. When it released, the critics gave very poor reviews not more than 2 out of 5. Many critics said that Mirzapur is a show without a moral centre, which is problematic - not only ethically, but narratively. But the audience verdict was totally different. Mirzapur became one of the most popular web series in India as well as the most-watched ones. IMDb gave 8.5 out of 10 for this web series stating it is a great watch.

2. The Family Man

The Family Man is the most-watched web television series in India in recent times. This investigative thriller is created by Raj and DK and premiered on Amazon video in September 2019. This series tells the story of a middle-class man secretly working as an intelligence officer for the T.A.S.C, a fictitious branch of the National Investigation Agency starring Manoj Bajpayee and Priyamani. Both Manoj and Priyamani did an outstanding job in the leads roles of Srikanth Tiwari and Suchitra Tiwari. Another actor Sharib Hashmi excelled in the antagonist role Moosa Rahman. This series is highly rated on IMDb with 8.7 points out of 10. The first season of Family Man consists of 10 episodes and the creators announced that the second season is going to release soon in 2020. Samantha Akkineni is going to appear in a special role in season-2 of The Family Man.

3. Lust Stories

Lust Stories is an anthology film, whose international distribution rights were acquired by Netflix. Lust Stories consists of four short film segments directed by Anurag Kashyap, Zoya Akhtar, Dibakar Banerjee, and Karan Johar. This film made as a sequel to the 2013 Bombay Talkies and produced by Ronnie Screwvala of RSVP Movies. The makers of Lust Stories are highly praised for showing women exploration and female sexuality, a subject which is rarely dealt with in Indian films. This web-based Indian film also nominated for International Emmy Award for Best TV Movie or Miniseries. The same directors, Anurag, Zoya, Dibakar, and Karan collaborated again for another Netflix movie called Ghost Stories but it not as successful as the previous one. IMDb rated Lust Stories as 6.5/10.

4. Inside Edge

Inside Edge is another Indian web series based on a fictional T20 cricket team, Mumbai Mavericks that plays in the Power-Play League, which is based on Indian Premier League. This web series is premiered on Amazon Video on 10 July 2017, which is also the first Indian original series. It stars Vivek Oberoi, Richa Chada, Siddhant Chaturvedi, Tanuj Virwani and Angad Bedi in the lead roles. The first season premiered in July 2017 consisting of 10 episodes and the second season premiered in December 2019 with another 10 episodes. Inside Edge is the story of the Mumbai Mavericks, a T20 cricket franchise playing in the Powerplay League. This series has been positively received by critics and audience and nominated for Best Drama series at 46th International Emmy Awards. IMDb rated Inside Edge with 8.1 out of 10 points.

5. Sacred Games

Sacred Games is Netflix's first original series in India directed by Vikramaditya Motwane and Anurag Kashyap. This series is also produced by them under the banner Phantom Films. Sacred Games is an adaptation to Vikram Chadra's 2006 novel of the same name Sacred Games. This web series stars Saif Ali Khan, Nawazuddin Siddique, Radika Apte, Girish Kulkarni, Pankaj Tripathi, etc. The story of this series revolves around Sartaj Singh (Saif Ali Khan) a troubled police officer in Mumbai who receives a phone call from gangster Ganesh Gaitonde (Nawazuddin Siddiqui), who tells him to save the city within 25 days. The first season with 8 episodes premiered in July 2018, and the second season with another 8 episodes premiered in August 2019. Sacred Games is highly acclaimed for its flawless performances by Saif, Radika, and Nawaz and nimble direction by Vikram and Anurag. IMDb rated it 8.8 out of 10 which is said to be an excellent watch.
