Vijay Sethupathi and Trisha Krishnan featured '96 was the most talked movie in Tamil, which developed curiosity among the Telugu audience about that movie. Many Telugu audience watched this movie already and experienced that pure love saga amidst K.Ramachandran and Janaki Devi. Ace producer Dil Raju wanted to remake '96 in Telugu as Jaanu to take this beautiful story to a broader audience. It's his decision to cast Samantha and Sharwanad for Telugu version to reprise the roles of Trisha and Vijay Sethupathi. Jaanu movie released today, and let's dive into the review.

Plot

Jaanu is all about the reunion of two childhood lovers Janaki(Samantha) and Ram(Sharwanand). They again got to meet after 15 years after their break up. Why Janaki and Ram had got to break up their love and what were the consequences after their love is the plot of Jaanu.

Review

Both Samantha and Sharwanand put their total efforts in this movie to bring out the original flavor, which was given by Trisha and Vijay in '96. But comparatively, Trisha and Vijay's pair looked slightly better and more natural. Other than that, Sam and Sharwa were too good throughout the movie. In childhood roles, the girl who played as the younger version of Jaanu is an absolute gem. The director has casted her even in the Telugu version tells how good and perfect she is in that role. Also, the boy in Jr.Ram did a decent job.

Janaki(Samantha) character appears from before interval, and from then she has very crucial scenes to act. Sam did very well in those scenes, and Chinmayi's voice became an added asset to her role. Chinmayi did her best to recreate Jaanu similarly again in Telugu, as she gave her voice to Trisha too in '96. Director should have taken care in picturizing Sharwanand properly. The only drawback in his character is his looks. He doesn't look like a guy with 40+ plus age. Remaining actors like Vennela Kishore, Fidaa fame Sharanya did their jobs acting as friends of the lead pair. Other than those minor issues, everything went smoothly with this remade film.

Technical Aspects

Music and Re-recording of Govind Vasantha is a huge plus for Jaanu. He has given his soul to the film with Oohale Oohale BGM. Cinematography is very neat and clinical and succeeded in capturing the emotions between Samantha and Sharwanand. Dialogues by Mirchi Kiran are good. The director Prem Kumar did 100% justification for this movie, as he already proved as a writer cum Director with '96. Dil Raju and his production house's technical values are superb as usual.

Bottom Line

Overall Sharwanand and Samantha have delivered flawless performances with their understated acting. Jaanu is a straight and honest remake, and it's nonsense it comparing with '96.
