The most awaited movie of 2019 Sye Raa Narasimha Reddy finally hit the screen today. Megastar Chiranjeevi's ambitious period drama of an unheard freedom fighter Uyyalawada Narasimha Reddy was on news ever since the movie was announced. Let us dig into this magnum opus and see is it worth making it this big. Here's the review of Sye Raa Narasimha Reddy.

Story: The film is based on the Palegar of Rayalaseema, Majjari Narasimha Reddy, who revolted against the atrocities of the British Raj in 1847. Narasimha was one of the 61 independent palegars of the region who is under the British system and pay taxes. The conflict begins when drought hits Seema and the British still insist to pay tax on land. How Narasimha Reddy unites the rest of the palegars, people and revolt against the atrocities is the rest of the story.

Review: The film opens with Jhansi Laxmi Bhai(Anushka) narrating the story of Uyyalawada Narasimha Reddy to her warriors to inspire them for upcoming battles. Sye Raa is executed with Sye Raa Narasimha Reddy has been executed on a BIG scale, beginning with showcasing Britishers’ atrocities in the region. Narration is slow-paced initially but that is adequate to build up the required emotion against the rulers.

The film dives into the story of Narasimha Reddy right from the first frame. Narasimha Reddy (Chiranjeevi) is a righteous man and also the ruler of Renadu in Uyyalawada. Under the guidance of his mentor Gosayi Venkanna (Amitabh Bachchan), Narasimha equips himself to fight the bigger battle, the battle for freedom. He joins hands with fellow rulers Veera Reddy (Jagapathi Babu), Avuku Raju (Sudeep), Basi Reddy (Ravi Kishan) and Raja Pandi (Vijay Sethupathi) to revolt against the British East India Company. The film lays bare patriotism and secularism in the film, which is a welcoming move. Yes, he magnified the scale of emotions taking cinematic liberties but killing 10,000 British Army is slightly high for a story on a real man.

Performances:

Cast: Our vintage Megastar is back with his charisma and dialogue delivery. People may complain about his age but ignoring the fact he is 60 years old, an audience can enjoy his performance thoroughly with his dialogue diction. Last 30 mins - never before seen on Indian cinema, language is immaterial Megastar has truly lived up to his title.

Frontline stars, actors from all languages have been roped in. Amitab Bachan as Gosai Venkanna, Kicha Sudeep as Avuku Raju, Vijay Sethupati, Jagapathi Babu as Veera Reddy, Nayanatara as Siddhamma ( Narasimha’s wife), Thamanna as a performer and many others fill the cast and everyone did their job best.

Crew: Director Surender Reddy gets the basics of a period drama absolutely right and it is safe to say that he has taken a no-controversy path without hurting the sentiments of anyone, just as the disclaimer says so. Paruchuri Brothers pen down their dream project with such ease and Sai Madhav Burra's dialogues added so much to the story. Cinematographer Ratnavelu's visuals are one of the main assets of the movie. Composer Amit Trivedi’s music, especially the introduction song, is pictured well. Also, brownie points to Julius Packiam’s background score, which adds a nice flavor to the intensity of the film. Production values are top-notch. Producer Ram Charan goes all in w.r.t. spending.
