  • Mahesh Babu, we don't need any introduction for this name. He is undoubtedly one of the most celebrated actor across two Telugu states. For every movie, he set his bar a little high and keep on giving the best. Mahesh started his career in 1999 under Raghavendra Rao direction "Rajakumarudu" as a hero (Before that, he did a few characters as a child artist in his father films) and became Prince of Tollywood. The journey of Prince turned to Superstar contains a wide variety of movies which no Tollywood hero tried in this generation. Despite the result of the movie let us talk about these movies in his filmography.

  • 1. Murari: It is a beautiful love story with a touch of family and fiction. A young man falls in love with a woman and they decide to get married. However, unknown to him, he has inherited an ancient curse that will kill him before the year ends. Mahesh Babu as Murari done a fantastic job to reach all types of audience. You can't be called a star hero if you don't bring the family audience to the theatres, Murari is such a film for him and it is his first blockbuster in terms of collection. And it is also one of the classics in Tollywood, even now people watch Murari whenever it played on Television.

  • 2. Takkari Donga: Whenever we talk about Mahesh Babu, we have to mention Takkari Donga. Although it was a flop in theatres, it is the first movie people seen Mahesh as an action hero. And it is one of the rare genres we see in Tollywood. After senior actors, Mahesh Babu is the only person who did the Cow Boy genre. Raja, a thief, works under the guidance of Veeru Dada. However, when Veeru faces a threat from an old enemy, he entrusts Raja with his daughter and a precious diamond. Mahesh looked dashing in those cowboy outfits he excelled in those action sequences.

  • 3. Okkadu: That Kurnool Kondareddy Buruju scene still gives goosebumps to movie lovers. Takkari Donga may be established him as an action hero but Okkadu mastered him in those deadly looks. Ajay is in Kurnool for a Kabaddi match when he happens to save Swapna from a brutal factionist. He hides her in his house in Hyderabad till the time she can reach the US. But, fate has other plans. It is a one of kind movie which only Mahesh can pull off. Okkadu is the first step for Mahesh to turn him from Prince to Superstar.

  • 4. Athadu: Athadu is undoubtedly one of the greatest movies of all time. I think nobody in two Telugu states hates this movie. A professional killer is hired to fake the assassination of a politician. But the politician is killed and he is framed for the murder. He assumes the identity of a dead man to escape from the law. As a silent contract killer Nandagopal, Mahesh did a fantastic job. Even now Athadu is one of the highest TRP rated movies on Television. The DVD version of the movie was released by Aditya Music under its Aditya Video brand and won the best DVD award for its quality and is considered to be one of the highest sold DVDs in Tollywood history.

  • 5. Pokiri: Industry Hit is a big thing for Tollywood hero. Every superstar has at least one industry hit in his career. Mahesh proved him as an actor and commercial hero but doesn't have an industry hit. In 2006 he ticked that feat with Puri Jagannadh's action thriller Pokiri. Krishna, a police officer, disguises himself as a thug and joins the mafia in order to enter the underworld and wipe it out. Meanwhile, he falls in love with Shruti, an aerobics teacher. Till date, Pokiri twist(Mahesh was Police) was one of the best plot points in Tollywood. Mahesh as Pandu and Krishna Manohar did a wonderful job and destroyed box office with the collection and stayed as in top for 5 years till Magadheera released.

  • 6. Dookudu: After a series of disappointing movies Mahesh hits back with another Bang "Dookudu". After years, politician Shankar wakes up from a coma. His son, a cop, recreates everything as would be expected by his father in order to save him from any shock. He also hunts for his father's foes. It is the first 100 crore film for Mahesh Babu and smashed all records. Dookudu was the first Telugu film to gross $1 Million in the U.S.A thus making everyone evident, the craze of Mahesh Babu in the overseas market. The comedy timing of Mahesh Babu is one of the assets for the movie. Dookudu always remains special in Mahesh Babu's career.

  • 7. 1: Nenokkadine: In my opinion, I don't think we will ever get a movie like this ever. Nenokkadine is undoubtedly the best psychological thriller ever produced in Indian cinema and really sad it didn't make enough money it deserved. A rock star, who suffers from a mental disorder due to his bitter past, is convinced that his parents were murdered by three men. Taking the support of a journalist, he sets out to find the evil men. Mahesh as Rockstar Gautham did a fantastic job. I'm really proud that this movie released in our generation and praise its cinematic excellence throughout my life. Here is my previous article on Nenokkadine's cinematic brilliance.

  • These are few of his experiments in his filmography. We can go all day on his story selection like SVSC, Businessman, Srimanthudu, Bharat Ane Nenu and recent sensation Maharshi. If you see the pattern of his story selection, nowadays he is picking the stories which have a good message to the society. Not only giving messages but he also doing those things like in Srimanthudu, he adopted a village and making better with schools, water facilities, etc. Because of Maharshi movie, people started caring about farmers and started weekend farming. Mahesh is not the only a superstar in Reel life but also a true gentleman and superstar in real life also. On behalf of his 45th birthday here is a small token of gratitude for being a superstar in Tollywood.

  • Wishing you a very Happy Birthday Super Star Mahesh Babu.
